Welcome to Al Hoota Cave
Estimated to be over 2 million years old, Al Hoota Cave is located at the foot of Jabal Shams, Oman’s epic mountain. It is the first and only show cave in the Arabian Peninsula with a total length of around 4.5km, of which just 500m is easily accessible to the general public.
We knew Oman was beautiful above ground – now we find out it is beautiful underground too. As an Omani I am so proud that we have this natural treasure and that it has been carefully and expertly adapted for visitors to enjoy.
What a great day out! We drove from Qurum, spent the morning in Nizwa and the afternoon at Al Hoota Cave. The cave itself was exciting and interesting and we couldn’t drag the children away from the geological exhibition. And to top it all off we had a fantastic lunch in the restaurant. We will be back, soon I hope.
Al Hoota Cave is a great example of a Karst cave system made even more exciting by the rare fish which live in its central lake. A must for anyone interested in how our world is shaped.
